Insane Transformative Power

Insane Transformative Power

I am quite often floored by the insane transformative power of what I call the inside-out understanding. It's simply the fact that our experience of life itself occurs from inside of us outwards. Not so much inside our bodies, but inside of our beingness. Definitely inside of what we have power over.

I am seeing it anew in quiet conversations with people whose eyes are glowing with new life. I lead a retreat day every fall in a beautiful location outside of Guelph, Ontario (if you've never been to southwestern Ontario, come in the fall - it's stunning).  The main focus of the retreat each year is the Inside-Out understanding of life. There are many facets and ways to look at it.

So, we explore as a group and reset our foundations every year. The feedback is always excellent, and people have such an insightful and beautiful day. But what moves me and why I continue to hold the retreats and to broaden my offerings in this work is the life-changing stories I hear from people long afterwards. We are now about a month and a half out, and some of the people who were there are telling me how their lives have changed. It feels quiet. And at the same time, insanely life-changing.

One person has stopped fighting with what is in life and feels a calm where there used to be a constant feeling of stress. Another has found not only relief from anxiety, but a true peace of mind and a renewed joy and peace while being around other people who are challenging. A third person has a calmer body. Two others tell me that their team meetings at work are more effortlessly focused, and they are getting more done.

Imagine as these people go forward now with this new ease and way of being in the world.

As we go farther and farther out from the retreat day in time, they will have more and more transformation build up. They might not even really "see" it after a while because I find it's very easy to forget what life used to be like before a change. It's as if the whole world changes, and at first, everything looks new and wonderful. Over time, it begins to look and feel like "the way it's always been".  I see it similar to if the captain of a large ship changed course by 5 degrees. At first, you would notice the course change, and then over time, you would simply be steaming along on the new heading that was by now your business-as-usual heading. However, over the course of a few months, you would arrive on a completely different continent and your life would be unrecognizable from where you had begun.

Why is realizing that life happens entirely from the inside out so insanely effective and impactful?

It's the foundation of how we attribute causation in our lives. What do you mean, Sara Joy?

Well, if you believe the myth (and most people today do) that our feeling of life is caused by what happens outside of us, then the things outside of us need to change for our feeling of life to improve.

If I don't like what is happening in my life and I'm upset, then the situation needs to change in order for me to feel better or be happy. We are, then, constantly victims of a capricious world.

In attributing the cause of my feeling to outside-of-me events, my brain won't stop trying to control the world around me or won't stop trying to fix a problem that it cannot fix.

And yet a quick look at this as a premise reveals that sometimes, in the midst of very challenging happenings, a person can be happy for no reason at all.

How does that happen?

It would point to the fact that our happiness or upset doesn't come from our circumstances or what happens in our lives or even in the wider world.

When a person begins to see that our experience of life is actually 100% from the inside-out, we naturally begin to attribute causation correctly, and a lot of what we think are problems disappear. This leaves us with any remaining actual things that we need to take action on, and we now have a lot more clarity of mind to be able to get things resolved. Our body relaxes because we've actually solved our own problems and closed a lot of open loops running in the mind.

I say it's insanely transformative because living life from the inside out or simply realizing that's actually how it works and you've been doing that all along, raises the tide for your whole life.

Every bit of your life improves. All boats rise with the tide.

With Love,

Sara Joy
