Insight: The Gateway to Awakening
Insight: The Gateway to Awakening
Insight is, literally, a sight from within.
All humans everywhere, of all stations in life, have insights. As near as I can tell, it's a dead common human capacity. We all do it. We are very good at it.
It also happens to be how true and lasting change happens.
I could have called this post "Insight: The Gateway to Change." But...Awakening is grander. And far more encompassing. Awakening, to me, is inherently about effortless change.
Awakening to what you might wonder?
Awakening to the peace within that we all have from birth. Awakening to an alive life. Awakening to an easier life.
A life beyond struggle and stress. A life where pressure no longer makes sense. A life where you are led by insight.
A life you are delighted to live, and where change is effortless and natural.
My daughter said to me the other day, "Mummy, I just realized something." What she realized was really profound, changed the course of her life, and I'd love to write about it; however, it's beside the point.
The point is what I call the fact of insight.
When we have an insight, it often sounds like "Huh", "Hmmm", "Ahhhhh". When we tell it to someone else, we might say "I just realized...".
We've made something real. Realized.
Often, our whole life then changes. The course of our lives might shift by a degree or ten, and we end up on a different continent. I sometimes wonder who or what comes into my life that wouldn't have by those course corrections.
I got really curious, recently, about the human capacity for insight. I noticed that in the moment of a realization, we can get caught up in the content of a given insight. However, the real power lies in noticing what insight actually is.
I see insight as our everyday capacity to use the creative potential inherent in the Universe to bring knowledge and wisdom to our conscious awareness. It's an all-of-a-sudden knowing whenever we need it. We can rely on it. It's never not there. It's what helps us get through anything and everything from the big stuff to the mundane everyday stuff.
In school, I took a course about how health change comes about. It was divided up into a number of steps. Information about the change you want to make. Preparation. Belief. There were a number of steps for identifying beliefs around the topic and then creating more helpful beliefs. And so on. Until...Hurrah! You have made a lifelong, sustainable health change. Congratulations! Onwards!
Except.
If that was how change worked, everyone would eat the perfect diet, stop smoking and drinking, and live stress-free.
How change works is actually much simpler than most people realize.
We are equipped with everything we need when we incarnate on this planet. Insight is one of our gifts or tools for life on Earth.
It's literally a portal or gateway into becoming alive to the unlimited creative and energetic potential that each and every human being is. We are squishy bundles of lovable, pure creative potential.
So, what does this mean in each moment, each day?
Recognize when you have insights big and small. It might be something around a problem at work, what you want to wear in the morning, or what you want to eat for lunch.
If you pay attention, you'll notice that every decision, every choice is a point of insight. It's a point of interaction, an opening into awakening.
How do you know what you'd like to eat for lunch? If you are anything like me, it just appears in your mind. Not there one moment and there the next. Turkey sandwich.
Or what to wear in the morning. Not there one moment and pops in the next. Navy blue trousers with white top.
It's the same with big insights as well. Not there one moment and there the next. Usually accompanied by an expansion of wellbeing feeling. Even the little insights have a little feeling of wellbeing. Yes! Turkey sando!
That expanding feeling of wellbeing is you. It's all of us. It's the feeling of waking up to yourself. You are literally the peace within. And nothing else.
Our inborn capacity for insights is a gateway, an opening, to noticing this peace more and more often.
All of life itself conspires to bring us back to peace and wellbeing in every single moment.
All you need to do is notice the insights you are already having.
With Love,
Sara Joy
