Poetry in Prague

Poetry in Prague

As many of you know, I was in Prague recently speaking at a conference.

I had one day to see some sights, and I decided to go see the famous Charles Bridge and then see where a wander would take me.

It was magical.

I wandered the old cobbled streets, had an amazing lunch by the river near an island and a lock system similar to the Rideau locks where I grew up, ate pistachio gelato, climbed a "mountain", and had a beer overlooking all of Prague.

While sitting by the river, a poem came to me, and it's about listening to the divine within all of life.

I thought I would share my poem with all of you here. I hope you enjoy.

When I hear you

When I hear you; I am you.

When I listen; you are me.

I am you in the current of the river.

You are me in the muddy brown sun dappled water.

I am you in the coolness of the shade and the heat of the sun.

You are me in the curious water animals and the birds and some bees, as well,
swimming up and flying over to greet Us on this long lazy afternoon.

There’s a woodpecker in the tree by the river,
he’s keenly interested in me
and I think he sees You here.
You are in him as well.

I feel you in the aliveness of the day.

You course strongly through the tree,
with its variegated bark and yellow lichen.

You vibrate in the stones where I’m sitting,
ancient steps to the water landing on the river.

You burst through each blade of grass spearing up along the bank.

How is it that I can ever, ever forget you, my beloved.

You are in my very blood;
my bones are made of you and I cannot look away.
You burn me to my very soul.

When I open to the so muchness of you - I am lost.

Until I do, I am afraid.

Who is it that’s afraid and thinks being lost is ever possible?
Or even a problem?

And then, like that, I’m home. Now.

When I hear you; I melt into the world.

When I listen; the world melts into me.

This week's Experiment:

What happens if you wander some today? Maybe it's a physical wander of a walk, or maybe it's just managing yourself less and seeing what happens. Relax the plan and see what wants to happen. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

With Love,
