The Space Within
This week’s blog is an excerpt from Michael Neill’s book, The Space Within. On page 74, the author shares a metaphor that illustrates living from the space within.

It’s something like this (but not this):
Imagine living 100 feet above a beautiful lake. Most of the time it doesn’t even occur to you to look down, but whenever you do you are struck by the purity, depth, and tranquility of the water. Every now and again, almost by accident, you drop down into the lake and get soaked, and it is the most refreshing feeling, like drowning in an ocean of love and peace.
Then one day it occurs to you to orient yourself toward the lake deliberately and on a more regular basis. Almost imperceptibly, you begin to drop down closer and closer to the level of the water. As you get closer, you drop down into it more often. Sometimes you just get your toes wet; at other times you go all the way in. But it becomes more familiar, even though it is no less refreshing than before. Soon, you can drop down into the lake almost on demand, dipping in and out of it whenever you feel the need to cool down and clean yourself off.
Then one day you realize that you can spend your days floating on the surface of the lake, being supported by its natural buoyancy. Every now and then you slip under and go deep; every now and then you drift up away from the surface. But for the most part you simply rest on the water and enjoy the beauty of the day…
